PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – ATV’s filled with tired search crews made their way back to the command post on Tedford Trail in Pontotoc County all day Tuesday, with few clues as to where Gerald “Nut” Davis, 60, might be.

“Mr. Davis went into the woods this Sunday around 4:30. He told a buddy down the road that he was gone go, he had a little Feist with him, he was going to see if he could tree a squirrel. He never did come back out of the woods,” said Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Roberts.

Deputies did find foot prints shortly after being called Monday evening about Davis’ disappearance.

After a two hour break Tuesday morning, they hit the woods once again to search in a grid pattern.

Now, they are covering 600 acres of hills and thick terrain in hot July weather. One group has walked more than seven miles.

“There’s places in this where we’ve got all of our search at right now, there’s places you can’t see five feet in front of you. We take our time and do it right. You know it just takes some time doing it, especially the terrain that it is. If you was on flat land, you know, you can go but we’ve got some hills out here that’s 40 foot deep…50 maybe,” explained Roberts.

Resources from across the state are helping with the search.

MEMA is on the ground, along with K9’s, firefighters from various counties and state troopers. The Mississippi Highway Patrol and National Guard are providing helicopters to aid in the search.

“It takes a lot of planning. You can’t just come up and it the woods. We’ve got people in the trailer here that’s doing mapping and planning the whole day out. We’ve got probably four to five bunches in each county coming in and helping us,” said Roberts.
