Seven Qualify for Tupelo Council Special Election

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Seven people qualify for the special election to fill the Ward three Tupelo city council seat.

The qualifying deadline was 5 p.m. Friday.

The Tupelo City Clerk’s office says Mike Coutoumanos, Derek Russell, James Hull, Ed Breedlove, Travis Beard, Lorna J. Holliday-McGee, and James “Jim” A. Pitts qualified in time to run.

Election commissioners will confirm the ballot Monday.

The crowded field is trying to replace Jim Newell, who resigned because he moved out of the ward.

The special election will be held Sept. 4.
