Sheriff Details Events Leading To Capture Of Murder Suspect

LEE COUNTY (WCBI) – The search for an accused killer is over.

23 year old Leonta Gates of Tupelo, called 911 at 1:30 this morning to turned himself in.

Lee County sheriff Jim Johnson says Gates was picked up at his home in Evans Circle.

when law enforcement arrived,  Gates was lying on the ground, in a non-resistant manner. .

Johnson credits social media outlets for Gates’ capture.

Both the Tupelo Police Department and the Sheriff department worked together to bring in the suspect.

Gates is being charged with capital murder, armed robbery, grand larceny and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
