Video: ‘Sickle Cell Sunday’ Recognized at West Point Church

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A local pastor is speaking out on a disease that he is currently battling.

Revered James Gates is currently living with Sickle Cell disease and took the time to speak out about his experiences and raise awareness about the disease. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited disease that mainly affects African Americans. The disease affects red blood cells and often causes a lot of pain for patients.

Strong Hill Church in West Point recognized Sunday as “Sickle Cell Sunday.” Gates has also written a book to inspire and inform others living with sickle cell disease.
