COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –A local non-profit is getting a space to call home.

Supporting Inmates and their Loved Ones, better known as SILO is working to renovate a building on the north side of Columbus that will help them better serve the community.

Monday the Columbus High School Boys Basketball team stepped up to help paint the new building.

An effort that will be felt long after the paint has dried.

“There’s a revolving door down at our local jail. These people that are dealing with recidivism, they’re in and out, in and out.”
“These people are kind of thrown out with the garbage, they have hardly any help,” says Dennis Holliman with SILO.

That’s a reality that Silo is trying to change, getting a building ready that will help them provide support to recently released inmates and their families.

“Just come together and just let them know there is hope for those that have been incarcerated, and you’re not thrown away,” says Aaron Pulsifer with SILO.

SILO plans to fill a need that board member Aaron Pulsifer understands.

” Well I’m actually a convicted felon myself,” says Pulsifer.

He says this new building will become a safe haven for former inmates to have support groups, and work towards job placement.

Sprucing it up is job the Columbus High School Boys Basketball Team was happy to sign up for.

“Everyone deserves a second chance, not everyone is very lucky when you come out of prison, it’s very hard to get a job,” says Cameron Douglas.

“We want people in the community to come support us, so we try to support them as much as possible,” says Christopher Deloach.

Support that will go a long way for those in need of a fresh coat of paint, to help them start over.
