COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A son of Columbus Mayor Robert Smith is going to prison for five years.

German Smith, 24, was sentenced to three years in prison and five years probation in 2008 for a 2007 street robbery.

In May, he was arrested for being in possession of a stolen weapon. A federal indictment following that arrest led to Friday’s revocation.

Lowndes County Circuit Court Judge Jim Kitchens ordered Smith to serve his five years probation. He will be given credit for the time he’s been in jail since May.
