Smith Selected As Starkville-Oktibbeha Athletic Director

Starkville, Miss. (WCBI) — The Starkville-Oktibbeha School Board voted in a special session Wednesday to appoint Milton Smith as full time athletic director of the Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District.

Smith was previously a part-time assistant principal and part time athletic director.

The board voted 5-0 favor of Smith, and the board rejected a motion to advertise the athletic director position none in favor, five opposed.

Board President Eddie Myles says the board wanted to give Smith more time as athletic director, and believes he should be given the opportunity.

“I think our community here in Starkville, his hometown, to rally around him…”, said Myles.

Myles said the challenges facing Smith include being in “two places at once” and equally devoting time and effort to all men’s and women’s sports, as well as fundraising efforts for the district.
