Smith to Seek District 43 Seat in Oktibbeha, Winston Counties

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Starkville native Mac Smith announced today that he will be a candidate in the Republican primary for the Mississippi House of Representatives in the 43rd District. This district includes Oktibbeha County and a portion of Winston County.

The seat is an open one created by redistricting which takes effect this year.

“I look forward to serving Oktibbeha and Winston Counties as well as being a voice for Mississippi State University. Having lived in Starkville my entire life, I know that Oktibbeha County and the City of Starkville economically benefit from Mississippi State and vice versa,” Smith said in making the announcement. I believe that the many relationships I have within the community will allow me to be the ‘People’s Voice’ within the Mississippi Legislature.”

Smith currently is the general manager of the Starkville restaurant, The Little Dooey.

Born and raised in Starkville, he graduated from StarkvilleHigh School and has been involved in multiple organizations within the city of Starkville and Mississippi State University. Smith has also been involved in local county initiatives such as the East Lee Boulevard Water Association and has strong relationships within the Oktibbeha and Winston County communities.

“With the consolidation of the district, the county and city schools are a priority for me. I plan to ensure that this transition goes smoothly and to enhance the educational experience for citizens within Oktibbeha County, he said. “With a portion of Winston County being a part of the 43rd district, it is important that I be a strong representative for them as well.”

Smith and his wife Patricia of 30 years have one child, 24-year-old Hannah.
