SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) –  The city of Smithville has been looking to build a new government complex since the April 27, 2011 tornado.

Today, officials took bids for the $600,000 project.

However, the lowest bidder,  company from Tupelo, was still over the budget for the project.

“We are having to go back and do some cuts and get with the contractor and see if them cuts will be suitable to get it within the budget range. We cannot build it with it outside the budget,” Mayor Gregg Kennedy told us.

Officials will meet next Tuesday to re-evaluate the original plans.
