Video: Soccer Tournament Underway in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi’s largest soccer tournament is about to get underway in Columbus.

Game officials, coaches, participants, and fans are making their way to the Golden Triangle for the annual tournament, which kicks off Saturday.

Registration is Friday night.

Local tourism officials tell WCBI they’re looking forward to the economic boost this tournament brings to North Mississippi.

“We expect it to be over a $2 million economic impact,” said Nancy Carpenter, Visit Columbus CEO. “The hotels are full in Starkville, West Point, and Columbus, so please be patient if you have to wait a little bit longer to eat in one of our 134 restaurants, but we are excited about everything that’s going on here.”

The games start at 8 a.m., Saturday.
