Some KIOR Assets Are Sold
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Two firms are buying equipment that belonged to the former KiOR biofuel plant in Columbus.
A judge has approved the sale of refining equipment to Iowa-based REG Synthetic Fuels, while Georgia Renewable Fuels says it’s buying wood-processing equipment.
REG Synthetic Fuels is paying $1.5 million, while no price has yet been disclosed for Georgia Renewable Fuels’ purchase.
Cal Garland of Georgia Renewable Fuels says his company wants to operate a chip mill at the site or next door, but must negotiate a plan with the government agency that owns the land.
KiOR went bankrupt with the state of Mississippi claiming it owed $79 million. The Columbus facility wasn’t included in that bankruptcy. After trying to sell the whole Columbus plant, a receiver won court permission to sell equipment piecemeal.
