COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – After a massive 660 pound gator was caught in Tibbee Creek Friday night, we wondered whether locals were concerned.

A peaceful Sunday at the Columbus Riverwalk led to some locals enjoying time on the water this Labor Day Weekend. Even with pets and small children, one family seemed unconcerned about the threat of alligators in their neck of the woods.

Alayna Chism, a Columbus resident said, “We’re not really too worried about it. I’d still swim, but I mean, before we get in the water we look around, things like that…make some noise, you know.”

She went on to say that near the Riverwalk she had not seen an alligator in nearly 5 years and that she is much more worried about snakes.
