Video: SPD Citizen’s Police Academy

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – 11 Starkville residents are learning what it’s like to wear a police badge and uniform everyday.

The first Starkville Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy kicked off on Thursday night.

Officers will teach the class the basics of police work.

They met at the gun range, but the group will experience a wide range of law enforcement work.

Chief Frank Nichols believes the class is an important piece of the department’s community policing efforts.

“This academy is not a certification of any type. It is more informative than anything. After they go through this class, they will know exactly what our job is day to day,” said Nichols.

The class is a ten week program. It will end in August.
