Starkville Duo Take State-Record ‘Gator

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Three days after Mississippi’s state record for alligators was broken, The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks has certified an even bigger gator.

The department says Brian Montgomery of Starkville and his friends Scott Berry of Raymond and Jesse Phillips of Starkville took a 792-pound gator early Tuesday in the Mahannah Wildlife Management Area. The department says Berry was also in the group that bagged the 756-pounder certified Saturday as Mississippi’s biggest. That gator was 13 feet, 1.75 inches long, 67.25 inches around the belly and 45.6 inches around the base of the tail.

Wildlife officials say Montgomery’s was 13 feet 5 inches long and measured 69 1/4 inches in belly girth and 51 inches in tail girth.

Mississippi’s alligator season will end at noon on Monday.
