STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Neighbors are protecting neighbors from crime, by simply logging on to the internet.

The Starkville Police Department launched the Next Door program three weeks ago, and has already recruited more than 100 members.

A secured website is set up for Starkville residents.

Once address information is provided and verified, people can share tips, warn others about suspicious behavior, or even provide vehicle descriptions.

That information also goes directly to officers, helping them better protect neighborhoods.

“This is part of the police department’s reach out program. Chief Nichols and Assistant Chief Thomas want the community to become more involved and more knowledgeable about what’s going on in their community,” says Sgt. Freddie Bardley, Starkville Police Department.

Anyone interested in signing up, can contact Sgt. Bardley at the Starkville Police Department at (662) 323-4134
