STARKVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) Starkville aldermen’s repeal of an equality resolution spurs a movement among residents who disagree with their decision. Those against the repeal of the Equality Resolution and Plus-One Health Insurance coverage have started the We are Starkville project.

Their first order of business Thursday was a photo shoot on the Mississippi State Campus. They created signs and took their message to social media, with the hash tag “We Are Starkville.”

This meeting, is ahead of a protest planned at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse over the weekend. Those who identify with the LGBT community say they want their city leaders to see and hear how important this issue to the city.

“We have a group of 200 people, coming in and out to just to get their picture made with a poster. Just saying they support equality,” says Michael Waldrop, “We are Starkville” organizer.

Since the repeal during executive session earlier this month, Mayor Parker Wiseman issued a veto. Aldermen are expected to override that veto at Tuesday night’s meeting.
