Starkville, Miss. (WCBI)– Starkville police and firefighters faced off Saturday on the diamond at the Starkville Sportsplex to raise money for the charities of their choice.

In the second annual Battle of the Sirens, teams of servicemen competed in a tournament and home run derby.

All the money raised went to the charities.

Firefighter Demario Cistrunk said the event us a great opportunity for servicemen to wind down, relax, and enjoy time with their families and community.

“We talk for 12 months about this one day so you know its good to get together, its good to have fun, its good to put smiles on peoples faces…”, says Cistrunk.

“It’s nice when you get to come out and interact with the community in a positive way because every time we get a call, its never “hey, I just wanted to say hey”, we’re there to help somebody, somebody’s hurt, somebody’s in need or somebody needs us…”, said Community Oriented Police officer Tyler Davis, “…so its nice to be able to interact in a straight up positive way where they don’t necessarily need us but we’re still letting them know we’re there for them.”

The money raised will be split evenly and go to charities like Starkville P.D.’s toy drive and the Mississippi Burn Unit in Jackson, which runs entirely on donations.
