Starkville Student Wins MDOT Poster Art Contest

bike_posterJACKSON, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Saris Cycling Group would like to congratulate Lily Adam of Henderson Elementary School in Starkville, MS for winning the 2014 5th Grade Bicycling Poster Contest; a contest that encourages our youth to ride bicycles as a way to lead a healthy lifestyle. The contest asked students to create a poster around the famous John F. Kennedy quote, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.”

By winning the state level contest, Lily will receive a brand new Schwinn bicycle, a light attachment and safety helmet. Lily and her artwork will now represent Mississippi in the national contest where she will compete against the other participating states. The public will vote for the national winner through an online Facebook contest between April 10 and 15. The national winner will be announced on the Saris website on April 17 and will win a trip to the 2015 National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. In addition, their school will receive bicycle parking to park twenty bikes and a bike/walk tracking system called “The Hub.”

“This contest is a great activity that encourages kids to consider the many benefits a bicycle can have in our daily lives,” said Contest Coordinator Lindsey Netherland. “Congratulations to Lily Adam for her hard work and creative approach to the poster contest. I encourage every Mississippian to support Lily in the national contest by voting for her artwork on Saris’ Facebook page.”
