STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville residents got the chance to voice their concerns about a tax raise Tuesday night at City Hall. Residents expressed their displeasure with a tax hike included in the 2014 budget proposal. The taxes raised will go towards a new Municipal Complex but some say there needs to be more transparency on how money will be spent. They were also concerned that those on a fixed income weren’t considered when the Board decided on the tax increase. Ultimately, Alderman Scott Maynard motioned instead to have a 21.98 millage increase incorporated into the budget proposal that will be prepared for the public by September 17th.
