Video: State Audit Finds Lowndes County Tax Assessor Improperly Handled Property Taxes

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Failure to charge penalties properly on late tax payments has cost Lowndes County Tax Assessor Greg Andrews more than $7,100.

Andrews paid the fine from his personal funds Monday following an investigation by the state auditor’s office. Andrews’ office didn’t properly charge late fees and penalties on property taxes in 2009 and 2010. Andrews said that as the elected head of the tax office, he took responsibility for the errors because it was impossible to say how they occurred or who made them.
