STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – More than 100 students learned about the harmful effects of tobacco.

The Mississippi State Department of Health hosted iFly, a program to educate students on why it’s important to stop tobacco use.

The more than 200 students learned how to make a difference within their communities.

Students from surrounding counties participates and organizers say they want to educate youth on why they should stop using tobacco.

“Nearly 68,000 youth in the state of Mississippi die pre-maturely from tobacco uses. It’s our goal as of today, if we can stop those 1 out of 3 little ratios, we can save a couple of lives,” said Frederick Wiley, iFly Youth Programs Coordinator.
