STURGIS, Miss. (AP) – The Sturgis Board of Aldermen has named Doug Hamilton as the town’s new police chief.  Hamilton takes over the department on Thursday. Hamilton retired from the Mississippi Highway Patrol after 30 years. Mayor Walter Turner tells the Starkville Daily News (http://bit.ly/1copayA ) that Hamilton came out of retirement to take the Sturgis job. Hamilton replaces Will Hutchinson, whose contract was not renewed earlier this month. The town’s three police officers resigned. Turner says Hamilton will spend about a week acclimating to the job before helping the town select other police officers. Four candidates were interviewed for police chief.
