COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It will take a little while longer before a sunken barge is removed from the Stennis Lock and Dam in Columbus.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Operations Manager Rick Saucer tells WCBI it could be Monday before the work begins.

The barge was loaded with soybeans when it sunk on December 28th.

Three barges operated by Tom Sawyer Grain in Clay County came loose and started floating down the Tenn-Tom on the weekend after Christmas after flooding rains.

Saucer says at least one spillway gate is damaged.

It will be this summer before any repairs are made, because that’s when there is a lower flooding threat on the river.
