CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An emergency call was made Friday morning in West Point with an interesting twist behind it.

Rescuers responded to a possible drowning  on the Tenn Tom waterway.  But it was only a drill.

Fire and car wrecks are common for West Point and Clay County fire fighters and responders which makes drowning drills like these more important.

Columbus Special Operations Chief Neal Austin says the drill went well. “I did identify a couple of short falls that always show up in exercise and that’s usually communication.”

Although Friday was just a practice drill, that doesn’t mean that its the only practice that the West Point firefighters get.

West Point Fire Chief  Ken Wilbourne says first responders are always practicing. “We are always working on different aspects of what we do. We don’t just fight fire,  water rescue, rope recuse, trench rescue, you name it. ”

Eight agencies responded to the call and worked today’s training dive.
