Sweet Potato Crop Topic of Field Day Event

PONTOTOC, Miss. (AP) — Sweet potato growers, crop consultants and other agricultural professionals will learn about current research and market issues during a field day program Aug. 20.

Researchers and specialists with the Mississippi State University Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will be featured at the event at the Pontotoc Ridge-Flatwoods Branch Experiment Station in Pontotoc on Mississippi Highway 15 South.

Topics include nutsedge management, production and variety trials and herbicide carry-over to corn. There also will be discussion of alternative rotational crops, such as grain sorghum and sesame.

A Mississippi crop report also will be presented.

A sweet potato soil fumigation rig designed by Mississippi State University engineers will be demonstrated.
