Video: Tanglefoot Trail Grand Opening Date Set

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – After ten years of planning and preparation, the Tanglefoot Trail has a grand opening date set. Chickasaw Development Foundation Director Joyce East announced an opening date of August 17 when she addressed the board of supervisors on July 1. The Rails to Trail committee is planning the grand opening which will involve seven towns along the 44-mile trail. Grand opening ceremonies will be held in both Houston and New Albany at 9 a.m. on August 17. A silver railroad spike will be carried through each town and community along the trail ending around noon in Pontotoc for the official opening ceremony. The trail has whistle stops in in Houlka, Algoma, Ecru, and Ingomar. The whistle stops will have comfort facilities including restrooms, bike racks, and picnic areas. The county board of supervisors voted to donate $500 toward grand opening expenses.
