COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A 17-year-old has been charged with malicious mischief in last month’s vandalism at the popular Columbus Riverwalk.

The Columbus teen was caught on one of the park’s security cameras vandalizing a Port-a-John at one of the walk’s parking areas.

Police say the other two people shown in the video haven’t been charged.

The security cameras are among several that monitor the Riverwalk for walkers’ safety and to catch pranksters like these.

City leaders say vandalism won’t be tolerated at park, which is about to undergo its third expansion.

“It’s something we take very seriously. The city and county have spent a lot of money on what is one of the nicest attractions in the region. Hundreds of people enjoy it each day. We want to make sure it stays that way,” Police Chief Selvain McQueen said.

“That’s why we patrol, that’s why we have the security cameras,” the chief added.
