HATLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — A teenage girl whose months-long battle with an incurable disease inspired a school and a community has died.

Hatley High sophomore Serra Pearson died this morning. She was 15. Serra was diagnosed in February with a rare immune disease. After treatment during the summer, she returned home to spend the fall with her family and friends.

That included a trip to Disney World in Florida thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation.
