STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Terrorists attacks can make people think twice about traveling.

Last week’s attack in Brussels is no exception.

But how do these attacks affect students that are required to study abroad?

“Obviously, you know it’s saddening, it’s really saddening,”said MSU student Za’Kiya Epps.

Epps has studied abroad twice and said she enjoys the experience. She’s heard of the attacks but that hasn’t stopped her from continuing her studies abroad.

“The chances of you being involved in a terrorists attack accident is really really low,” said Epps.

But that low chance almost heightened in 2015 while Epps was abroad.

“I think the stuff happened in France, I was in Italy, but I was still in Europe so I was like ehhhh,” said Epps.

Although Epps was out of harms way when the attack happened, she said it was still a scary feeling.

“There weren’t a lot of people there so there wasn’t like a whole whole lot to worry about for real for real, but it was nerve wrecking, but just for that one night, after that night was over with, like that one night but that was about it,” she said.

Epps said she tried to remain calm, but her parents on the other hand.

“Parents really, they kinda over worry themselves so me calling home saying mom, guess what happened, this happened over here, I’m a little nervous, that wouldn’t been really bad and you know cause unnecessary stress,” she said.

But to help make sure students stay safe in case these incidents do happen. The MSU student abroad program makes students take the Outbound Orientation, which is a website to give students a heads up of everything in the country they’ll be going to.

“You have to register on a website, saying I’m going to this place and I’ll be here for this long, so I guess as an American citizen you can be tracked,” Epps said.

Epps said she will be studying abroad again this summer in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
