LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A screaming woman and a man lying dead in a hallway.

That’s what Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies found when they responded to a disturbance call on Jan. 31, 2011.

The testimony came in the first day of the murder trial for 48-year-old George Strickland. He is accused in the shooting death of 36-year-old Christopher George inside Strickland’s home on Highway 50 in eastern Lowndes County.

Sheriff’s deputies testified today about what they found when they were called to the house by Strickland’s wife at about 10 a.m. on the day of the shooting. After firing the shots, Strickland walked next door to Red’s Auto Body and told employees what he’d done and waited for deputies.

George had been living with Strickland’s wife while Strickland traveled back and forth from Birmingham.

He claims he shot George in the chest with a handgun in self defense when George pulled a knife on him. An unopened knife was found next to George’s body.

The Lowndes County Circuit Court trial is expected to last at least until Friday.
