Texas Man Sentenced for Killing Two Ole Miss Students in Car Wreck

MISS. (WCBI) – A Texas man will spend 12 years in jail after pleading guilty to aggravated DUI in connection with a wreck that killed two Ole Miss students last year.

John Howard Strickland Jr., 22,  entered the plea this morning in federal court.

He was sentenced to 25 years, but judge Andrew Howorth suspended 13 years.

Strickland faced charges in the October 2012 head-on collision that killed siblings John and Sarah Wheat.

Strickland was found to be under the influence of marijuana and had inhaled canned-air propellant prior to the accident.

Strickland apologized to the Wheat family at the sentencing.
