WCBI – Ebay is one of the world’s largest online marketplaces. Today in 1995, 19 years ago, it was officially founded.

It’s an online auction website founded by Pierre Omidyar in San Jose, California.

Practically anyone can buy and sell practically anything. More than 700 million items are listed on Ebay, collectibles, decor, appliances and even vehicles.

The first auction was a broken laser pointer. It sold for $14.83!

In 1783, the Treaty of Paris was negotiated between the United States and Great Britain. It ended the Revolutionary War and recognized American independence.

In 1962, poet E.E. Cummings died of a stroke in New Hampshire.

In 1967, the popular T.V. game show, “What’s My Line” had its last broadcast on CBS.

In 1976, the unmanned U.S. spacecraft, Viking 2, landed on Mars. It took the first close-up, color photographs of Mars’ surface.
