LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- A Verona man is arrested for allegedly sending disturbing messages to the Lee County Sheriff’s department.

Investigators say they received the messages from this man, Charles Carter.
The messages were sent through social media, containing threats against the Sheriff’s Department, employees, and family members of employees.

Carter was arrested Sunday evening in Verona. A search warrant was executed at his home, where electronic devices where seized.

Lee County Sheriff Jim H. Johnson says when they get threats, they don’t take it lightly.

“We’re going to take it serious. You can’t sit back and say well it’s freedom of speech, or someone can say whatever they want to say,” Johnson said. “This was not someone standing out in the general public and voicing their opinion. This was a private message to our Facebook Page.”

Bond for Carter was set at $100,000.
