NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — The son of a Northeast Mississippi sheriff is arrested on drug charges for the third time in four months.

And this time investigators confiscate more than 18 thousand dollars in cash. Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Akem Grassaree, of Macon and Columbus residents Tiqan Davis and Gary Dewayne Jones during a roadblock on Highway 45 Alternate in the Egypt community at about 2-30 this morning.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says he suspects they were on their way back from drug deliveries in Lee County.

In addition to the cash, deputies found two small caliber handguns and a small amount of marijuana and spice. The money and guns were found stuffed under the dashboard and other areas.

It’s one of the largest drug money confiscations ever in Monroe County.

The money will be used to buy equipment for the department.

No bond has been set. The 25-year-old Grassaree is out on bond from drug arrests in Lowndes County in December and two weeks ago. He is the son of Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree.
