LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County deputies are investigating a one-car wreck that killed three people, and injured two others near Columbus.

Coroner Greg Merchant tells WCBI it happened sometime between midnight and 1 a.m., Sunday, on Officers Lake Road.
Merchant says the car was speeding, missed a curve, and crashed into a tree.

He says investigators believe alcohol was involved, since they found it inside the car. They will conduct a toxicology test.

The driver and two passengers were killed. Two others in the car were injured. They were taken to a Columbus hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Merchant has identified the driver as 22-year-old Tyler Thompson. He says the passengers killed were 32-year-old Dontay Evans, and 40-year-old Eddie Lee.

Deputies say they are still investigating the wreck.
