COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — One of the Magnolia State’s top economic developers makes a stop in Columbus.

Mississippi Economic Council President Blake Wilson spoke to Rotarians Tuesday afternoon.

He talked about “Excelerate Mississippi,” a program calling for an additional $375 million a year for bridge and road improvements.

Wilson also talked to WCBI about the state flag controversy. He says it isn’t exactly helping economic prospects in Mississippi.

“The flag is an issue,” Wilson said. “It is an issue that we encounter before we even know we are being considered. It’s a negative, if you have a brand that it makes it uncomfortable for nearly 40 percent of the community to stand behind it, you would not market a product with that brand.”

Wilson says Mississippi should change its state flag, making it neutral for everyone.
