COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — One of Mississippi’s top military leaders makes a stop in Columbus.

Major General Augustus Collins, the state’s Adjutant General, spoke to the Rotary Club, Tuesday, about women in combat.

He talked about how both men and women have to go through intense training, and need to be physically fit.

Collins also told WCBI about the challenges the military currently faces.

“Obviously our budget on the national level and on the state level,” Collins said. “Budgets are being cut, but they are being cut at a time our military, in my opinion, is needed the most. If you just look around the globe, you see all these different incidents that are going on.”

Collins also serves as the Commanding General of both the Mississippi Army and Air National Guard.
