CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — A rural Northeast Mississippi community will get better access to the Internet for everything from school work to job searches.

The Toyota Foundation has awarded an $8,876 grant to the Columbus-Lowndes Recreation Authority to buy 10 Chromebook computers for use at the Crawford community center in rural Lowndes County.

The computers should be in place by late this year.

Rec officials say it’s particularly important for students under the state’s new third-grade reading mandate.

The agency also hopes to work with the Columbus-Lowndes library branch in Crawford on additional programs. Future grants may serve other rural community centers.
