Video: TPD Officer Hit By Fleeing Suspect

TUPELO, Miss. ( WCBI) — A Tupelo police officer is being checked out by doctors after his cruiser was hit by a fleeing shoplifting suspect Wednesday afternoon.

The unnamed officer was heading to assist in a shoplifting case at Wal-Mart on North Gloster.  That’s when he encountered the fleeing suspect on Barnes Crossing Road area near the Chick-Fil-A.

The driver hit the patrol car and  tried to leave the scene, but became disabled a short distance away.

A child was inside the car and police think alcohol may be involved.

The name of the suspect and any possible charges are not being released at this time.

The officer’s injuries are not life threatening.
