TPSD Creates Discipline Advisory Group

TUPELO, Miss. (AP)- The Tupelo Public School District has created a community advisory group to evaluate the district’s discipline policies.

The task force, which had its first meeting last week, was formed by district leaders following an amendment to the school district’s “zero tolerance” discipline policy in October.

Last month, the district decided a student will no longer be mandatorily disciplined if a knife is found within the student’s vehicle.

School board member Joe Babb says he is glad that people from various segments of the community are being given a voice through the task force.

Babb says the task force plans to delve into specific issues over the next two meetings and then report the findings to the school board. The group will then be disbanded.
