Traffic Stop Nets Six Meth-Related Arrests

On Wednesday February 6, 2013 agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit, detectives and uniformed deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 182 East. Agents arrested Steven Knight w/m, Christal Roper w/f, Scott Cook w/m and Todd Canida w/m for possession of Methamphetamine. Approximately 1/4 ounce of Methamphetamine was seized from their vehicle along with various paraphernalia. In a raid conducted following the traffic stop, officers executed a search warrant at the residence located at 6129 Hwy. 182 E. Agents seized approximately once ounce of methamphetamine already packaged for sale. The residence was equipped with audio and video surveillance cameras at the time of the raid. Arrested at the residence were James York w/m and Brittany York w/f. Both were charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. All six were transported to the LCADC. No bond has been set at this time. Stephen Knight was currently on probation at the time of his arrest. These arrests were part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit into manufacture and sale of methamphetamine in Lowndes County. There are possible federal charges pending. The ATF has been contacted due to possible illegal weapon violation. The Attorney General Office of Mississippi has been contacted due to possible counterfeit merchandise located during the search warrant. The investigation is continuing, some of the property seized could result in further criminal charges being filed in Lowndes County. Sheriff Mike Arledge praises the work that his officers have put into these investigations. The uniform patrol division, the criminal investigations division and the narcotics division have been dedicated and worked extremely hard in an effort solve these and other major crimes in Lowndes County with-in the last few weeks.
