TUPELO, Miss. (Press Release) — Tupelo-based collection agency Alliance Collection Service, Inc. is proud to announce the winner of the company’s first scholarship on financial literacy to Tremont High School Senior, Justin Smith. Justin was awarded the $500 scholarship today by the President of Alliance, Jeff Chambers, Marketing Director, Ken Dulaney, and the employees at Alliance who raised the money over the past year to promote financial literacy in North Mississippi.

Justin submitted a one page essay on “The benefits of financial literacy in today’s economy” in April. His Principal, Mr. Brady Ramey, submitted his name to Alliance Collection Service COO, Tony Palmer, as a possible candidate for the scholarship. Smith was one of more than twenty students who submitted essays on the subject and was selected as the winner by Mr. Joe Reppert, CFO at North Mississippi Medical Center after the field had been narrowed down to the top three by Alliance’s leadership team.

In the essay, Justin explained the importance of financial planning, budgets, balancing income with expenses and savings. He used his research along with his own experiences to make the essay informative and compelling.. He plans to continue his education at ICC and hopefully on to university, studying in the field of computer engineering. “Justin is a credit to his home town and Tremont High School” stated Ken Dulaney of Alliance who added, “He is a sharp young man and we hope this scholarship will help him continue the great education begun at Tremont High School.”

Employees and management at Alliance conducted a number of fund raising drives to raise the funds for the scholarship to include garage sales and personal employee donations during which they talked to consumers about the importance of personal budgets, credit, credit scores, and savings. Alliance Collection Service, Inc. has hopes of making scholarship awards an annual event and would like to thank the area seniors that participated from all over Northeast Mississippi.
