Trial Set In Library Threat Case

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) – A 19-year-old New Site man’s trial on federal charges he made threats over social media is now scheduled for Aug. 12 in Aberdeen.

Robert Scott Goodin pleaded not guilty in March to charges of interstate communication of threats to the George E. Allen Library in Booneville.

The Daily Corinthian reports (http://bit.ly/12jAp3X ) that the new trial date was set this week. Goodin was originally scheduled for trial in May but it was delayed for a mental evaluation.

The criminal complaint says Goodin told a library worker about “thoughts of killing people in the library” while he was there. Court papers say Goodin told federal investigators a demon inside him was encouraging him to commit the act.

If convicted, Goodin faces up to five years in prison and three years’ probation.
