Tupelo Athletic Director Retiring

TUPELO, Miss. —  Today, the Board of Trustees accepted the retirement of Danny Porter as TPSD Athletic Director after 33 years of service to the Tupelo Public School District.

Coach Porter began his career as an 8th grade football coach and was the first soccer coach at Tupelo High School. During his nine years as the TPSD Athletic Director, THS won the Clarion Ledger All Sports Award five times, won 56 out of 111 State Championships, and was recognized as the 4th top high school sports program in the Nation by MaxPreps as well a Sports Illustrated Magazine’s Top 10 High School Sports Programs in the Nation and 1st in the state of Mississippi.

Coach Porter had many outstanding accomplishments during his career with the Tupelo Public Schools and will be missed by students and faculty. His retirement will be effective at the end of the school year.

TPSD Superintendent Dr. Gearl Loden “wishes Coach Danny Porter a happy and fulfilling retirement after a long career with our school District. I hope he enjoys spending more time with his family and grandchildren.”
