Tupelo Council Discusses New Police Headquarters

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo city councilmen are anxious to see construction start on a new police headquarters.

During a work session this afternoon, council members reviewed plans and discussed the next phase of a project which will see construction of a $9.5 million headquarters.

The new facility will centralize police operations at Front and Franklin streets and will be approximately 38,000 square feet.

“What we’re trying to get is final approval on everything to be able to go forward, and then we get into architects, design and engineering, and get to where we’re ready to break ground,” Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton said. “That’s something the administration, police department and council is all looking forward to — to be able to break ground and get going in the right direction on this project.”

Preliminary plans call for the new headquarters to be complete sometime in late 2015 or 2016.
