TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s the largest damaged building, still standing more than four months after a tornado carved a path across Tupelo.

But the city and the owner of the damaged four-story Comfort Suites on North Gloster hope to soon see some progress toward clean up. Tuesday night, the Tupelo City Council gave Comfort Suites Owner Bruce Patel 120 days to clean up the site, or the city will tear it down and send him the bill.

The move is part of a cooperative process by the city to work with property owners while still spurring the rebuilding process.

Patel has said he is waiting on final settlements with his insurance company before doing work on the 6-year-old, 80-room hotel.
