Tupelo, Miss. (WCBI)– A Saltillo man was forced to crash land his plane at Tupelo Regional Airport on Tuesday Night.

The pilot was taking a Cessna 182 on a test-run flight prior to a weekend trip. Authorities say he had 60 gallons of fuel, so he flew around for several hours to burn some of the fuel.

When attempting to land, the back gear came down though the front wheel failed to release. The plane skidded for 30-yards and came to a stop in the middle of the runway. The nose of the plane sustained damage, but there was no fire in result of the crash.

The plane will remain in the maintenance hangar until the Federal Aviation Administration completes an investigation of the crash.

Only the pilot was aboard the plane and he did not suffer any injuries.

The pilot’s name is not being released at this time.
