Tupelo High School Reinforces Students’ ACT Preparedness

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Administrators at Tupelo High School (THS) are taking extra steps to ensure students are prepared to take the ACT.

Last school year, the THS senior class had a composite score on the ACT of 19.4, down from a 20.3 composite from the previous year. However it is above the state average.

THS Principal Jason Harris said last school year was the first time the ACT was given to all seniors. The ACT is the national standardized test used to measure college readiness.

Harris says there are several initiatives in place to improve students scores, such as ACT Prep Classes and free after school tutoring.

“We are still above the state average and slightly under the national average,” Harris said. “Again, this year we have partnered with a new group, Prep Works, in administering, preparing students, in essence for the future as we know ACT will eventually be tested online like many of our other tests are given.”

A grant will also allow THS juniors to take the ACT this year.
