Tupelo JA Hosts Charity Ball and Awards Citizen of the Year

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – It was an evening of living ads, music , food and dancing and it will all help local children. The 53rd annual Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball took place at Tupelo’s Bancorpsouth Arena.

The event also honors an outstanding citizen of the year. This year’s recipient is Jennie Lynn Johnson, who has volunteered at the Salvation Army since it opened.

“I got involved with families, there was so many little kids that needed food and it was , they needed help, somebody to care about them and to be interested in what they do, a lot of those kids didn’t have a chance , and I am so glad I was able to be there and maybe teach them some things that was important in their lives.”

Johnson organizes the annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Salvation Army that feeds more than 3500 people.
