TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) The Tupelo Police Department wants to help make sure high school seniors attending this weekend’s prom have a safe and memorable time. Thursday afternoon, as THS seniors were leaving school, school resource officers handed out flyers on alcohol awareness.

The flyers tell the effect alcohol has on various systems of a body, such as loss of coordination, slower reflexes and faulty judgment. The flyer also encourages the use of seatbelts.

Police say handing out the flyers is a way to personally encourage youngsters to avoid alcohol.

“Let the kids know you don’t need to have alcohol to have fun and we will be out monitoring during the prom and after the prom and our main concern is the kids go have a good time at prom, say no to alcohol and get home safe,” says Cpl. Jon Bramble, Tupelo Police Department.

The Tupelo High School prom is this Saturday night at the Furniture Market.
